CNC Router Parts: List And Pictures

If you are searching for “cnc router parts“, this article includes a list of parts and pictures.

CNC Routers

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Routers help to cut through all forms of surfaces, such as wood, foam, steel, and even different types of composites. These routers are very comparable to CNC mills, when it comes to computer functionalities that can be used inside the computer by numerical orders that route paths enabling machines to work properly. CNC routers reduce the general amount of waste and increases the rate of productivity.

Take a look at each of the parts that make up a CNC router here:

Table

CNC router tables are made of various materials. When a table happens to be constructed with a material such as MDF, it is intended to be replaced when needed. CNC tables will generally be bare, but can have features to facilitate a faster and more efficient job. For example, a hole grid or T-slots can be commonly featured. Wood tables tend to be sensitive to moisture and may not work in certain locations. Instead, most machine shops will opt for steel, phenolic or aluminum table tops.

Frame

Frames are constructed to support these machines and produce resistance to the force of cutting actions. Larger routers may need a stand with legs or a welded base. Aluminum extrusions are commonly used for CNC Milling frames. Other materials that a frame could consist of include wood, steel weldments or an aluminum plate.

Ways

CNC Routers feature at least 3 Axes. Each axis consists of sliding ways, with a drive system used to motorize the axis by computer control. Sliding ways can be used for multiple purposes, including adjustments. Round shafts are believed to be the most effective.

Spindle

The spindle is referred to as the heart of the CNC machine. This part of the machine plays a vital role in the overall performance of a cut. Some routers may utilize hand-held router as spindles. Any CNC machinery will only go as far as the spindle can take it.

CNC Controller

An electronics package is responsible for implementing g-code programming for the CNC Router. The controller will send electronic signals, telling the motors how, when and where to move. In most cases there will also be a DC power supply to operate the motors, drivers and other various electronic components.

Axis Drive

The axis drive of a CNC Router converts rotary motion from the motor to linear motion. This extends to driving the axis onto the sliding ways. When choosing the right access drive system, one must consider conversion speed, cost and the elimination of lost motion.
